One year after the meeting, Tom proposes his girlfriend, Violet, but unexpected events keep tripping them when they look down together to walk down the aisle.
There are risks romantic comedy injected with truth. Too little, and it feels like a desperate attempt to give the film credibility. Too much and starts to feel uncomfortable as comedy is buried in what looks like a series of life lessons. The five-year Engagement trying to find a balance between comedy and truth, and after a while more than two hours, almost succeeds.Thats not mean the film is bad. Its far from it, especially compared to what usually leads to a romantic comedy these days. His leadership (Emily Blunt and Jason Segel) is surprisingly easy chemistry and director Nicholas Stoller (who co-wrote with Segel) uses talented supporting cast ch add a new perspective and layers, which is very easy story.Violet (Blunt) is a post-doctoral student. Tom (Segel) is a rising star Kucharvy San Francisco. They hired their first anniversary, and while most romantic comedies end here, the five-year engagement doing something that makes romantic comedies - about what happens after the happy ending. Thus, we can see every crack, seam and bump in their relationship, jealousy Toms to leave his dream job for Violet to follow after receiving a scholarship from the University of Michigan, violets growing frustration certifications change during its relocation Tom . Its credit Segel and Stoller, situations in which there is so organic and not feel forced shock value, and when things start deteroriate, we are not only concerned, we have a solemn nod, because it inevitable. The film has problems though, and almost dropped the film. The most obvious, which is run time. The film clocks in at just over two hours and you feel every exhausting minute. Stimulation and modifications are near disasters and, sometimes, watching it feels more like a chore than time. This is partly because of the film, and billed as a romantic comedy is only funny in spurts. Seriously truths be over the center of attention, which is in itself there is nothing wrong, but in comedy, it really pulls the film down. The end is a typical rom-com Schmaltz, though, as it would be ripped from their trouble-making, I thought hey, arent doing comedy? wisely and end the film acceptable quirky note.In end a five-year Engagement is serviceable entertainment, but it could be much more if they were able to find a delicate balance to try for.Daniel FilmPulse.net
